Nafplion

This port is located on the east of the Peloponnese, right next to the picturesque and historical old city of Nafplion, which was announced to be the capital of modern Greece in 1829. The city itself is worth spending lots of time by walking around the little alleys and taking pictures of the neoclassical buildings, old and historical churches, the archeological museum and several more, as well as Sydagma square, all paved in marble. The city is built on the foothills of a larger rock, on which the spectacular Palamidi fort is built, and a shorter rock on which the citadel - Acronafplia (Acropolis of Nafplion) is built.

Since the very ancient times the whole area of Argolis has been important, with most of its settlements having being established and flourishing in the Mycenean era. Near Nafplion one can visit the ancient site of Tiryns, or Mycenae, or Epidaurus, or Nemea and farther away one can see the ruins of Ancient Corinth, as well as the Corinth Canal.
